Strength, Agility & Conditioning

We have added a strength, agility and conditioning class to our Saturday schedule. The class is primarily oriented at developing “strength at speed” through plyometric exercises supplemented with traditional progressive resistance weight training and ladder and cone based agility drills.

A plyometric movement is a quick, powerful move that starts with an eccentric (muscle lengthening) action and is immediately followed by a concentric (muscle shortening) action. Performing plyometrics movements increases muscular power, which translates to higher jumps and faster more efficient foot work. Plyometrics are primarily used by athletes, especially martial artists and boxers to improve performance and are typically used in the fitness field to a much lesser degree. We use this method in both upper and lower body conditioning.

A word of caution: plyometric exercises are very high stress and high impact, your base fitness level should be good to very good before you engage in this type of training. If you have any knee problems you should consider omitting the jumping exercises.

There is no additional cost to attend these classes. Your membership includes these classes.

We will begin the class each Saturday at 10:00 AM and conclude at 10:30 AM. As participants improve their capacity we may extend the class length to accommodate more repetitions and additional skills. As our boxers progress and if there is interest we will add additional days and times to this program.
